In a court action that may have grabbed the attention of celebrity news followers in Florida, the father of Beyonce Knowles was able to successfully petition for a reduction in child support payments after experiencing a significant change in his income. Mathew Knowles formerly worked as the superstar’s manager, but she relieved him of his duties in 2011. His attorney presented the relevant evidence that convinced the judge to drop the payments from $12,000 to $2,500 per month; however, Knowles was ordered to pay the child’s mother’s court costs of $15,000. Upon learning of the child and Mathew Knowles’ parentage, Beyonce’s mother filed for divorce in 2009 after almost three decades of marriage. Further information on the relationship between Knowles and the mother of his son was not immediately available.
In every state, including Florida, parents who do not reside with their children almost always have a legal obligation to help provide for the financial support of that child. The courts will consider a number of factors when determining the amount of support a parent must pay.
One of the main considerations is the income of the parent at the time of the ruling. In order to change the payment amount, the parent will need to petition the court for a new hearing and provide proof of any changes in earnings.
The changing financial climate has affected the ability of some people to make child support payments as directed. A family law attorney might be able to negotiate a reduced payment when someone’s financial circumstances change and they can no longer make previously ordered payments for their child.
